At last week’s State of the City address, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer enthusiastically stated, “I want to radically overhaul the system itself. The bureaucracy has been set up to empower anti-housing forces that delay or deny projects at every turn… We need to build more housing near employment centers and transit.”
The current leadership at San Diego’s regional transportation agency hates taxes, except that they love to spend it. This double-standard has become increasingly apparent in the recent months, as they are back-filling the shortfall in the local sales tax revenues and increase in project costs with $5 billion from a statewide gas tax that many on the agency’s board vehemently oppose. San Diego Metropolitan Transit System has released its City/Park Streetcar Feasibility Study. The proposal seeks ultimately to form a loop connecting downtown, Balboa Park, Golden Hill, South Park, North Park, Hillcrest, and Banker’s Hill.
